Just got in from the 100 Club on the night bus to Wndsworth. Good night I would say. Still didn't get to take any pics but I reckon nearly every body else did so when they send me some I'll post 'em here.
Well, the new set worked for me but I guess there will be the odd change for Norway next week.
Some one reckoned we did an hour and fifty minutes so that would be about right. Peter Green showed up which was nice. Good to see him about and looking well. Years ago when he was playing with John Mayalls Blues breakers they all came back to stay at our house in Warwick. Mayall had one side of their van as a bed and the other guys sat cramped on one bench on the other side. He slept in his bed that night and the band on the floor with improvised bedding.
In the morning Peter had a look at my old strat and changed the set up for me.
He might not remember it but I do. He was a thoroughly nice guy. I know he has had his hard times but has come through them and he sounds as good as ever judging by a recent live set I saw on The Arts Channel. Look out for it if you like the blues. I wish him the very best of every thing and I hope he enjoyed the show. If you were there I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
More later .............................

  2. Hi Tony
We don't carry our gear on the bus these days but we do have a great crew in our Spadge and young Ric who take care of all that. We do help load up on occasion. Re our groupies, they are far too wise and discrete to get on the same bus ha ha! Ramblin, Sue and our Clarkey did get on the same bus although they left the club a good 45 minutes before us. So we all wonder what they wre up to. I reckon they were wandering aimlessly guided by Ramblin who never goes up west nor uses public transport. Wait til he gets his Freedom bus pass in March. He will then.I've got mine and yes I used it last night on the N87.

    Peace

  3. Hi Rob,

My partner and I really enjoyed your set last night, excellent stuff. Great to see you play Side by Side again, For Dr Spock, Nighthogs and The Birth. They all came across really well. I know you did Six White Horses, but what were the names of the other 2 new songs you also did, was one called Catch My Breath?

Good crowd there as well last night, did you realise you had a Japanese fan club Rob? ;-)

    All the best mate

  4. Gshnergrumphff to you all, Ramblinmud here

Really enjoyed the show (as per), particularly the tunes that have been added since the last shows. I thought Rob was in great voice and the band played great, tho' for me the overall out front sound lacked presence on the individual instruments and could have been louder - and that's not 'cos I'm near getting my free bus pass.
Talking of which - I can generally count on one finger the times per year that I use public transport as I walk, cycle and occasionally use a car, so I'm wondering if I can sell my bus pass back to the government and get some money to pay for the little bit of diesel I use and maybe some spare tyres and a pair of stout boots?
I hate public transport, it's uncomfortable, you have to wait and you can't get away from people having one sided conversations about nothing to some equally bored and brain dead other person on their mobiles (something else I haven't got and don't want).

Neil and Sacha, I'm sure Rob won't mind me telling you that, yes, the song is called 'Catch my breath' and is from the the 80's. There are more wonderful tunies from the inbetween years that I have been privy to, but I'll say no more as that's for Rob to reveal at his liesure on 'Robs Time' (as he recently put it).

Much safe journeying to the northern lands Rob - knock 'em awake mon amis.

    luv n peas

  6. Got home safely last night - with public transport, too. Well, it has been an airplane... (how long do I have to wait for a free airbus pass? Or does the by-pass come sooner?) Anyway, it has been a remarkable evening in London. I loved the mix of the setlist. It included (almost) all milestones of EBB's career. "Get out of Bed"/"Side by Side" and especially "The Birth" caused some tears in my eyes. I just can't put "Aerial" and "Catch my Breath" on any record. Is there a missing-link in my collection? And yes, Rob, you're right to call "Nighthogs" a message which has nothing lost of its significance after a quarter of a century. Thank you so much for an unforgettable evening within a lovely crowd. Or should I call it a family? - Christian

  7. Hi, Peter Green played here on the Isle Of Man last night, he was great although I would have liked more of the classic mac numbers, best wishes Dave

  8. Fantastic gig.Highlights and surprises in no particular order:
Nighthogs/Spock/White Horses/Speak Down the Wires and the
re-birth of Birth. As always,Love in the Rain, played as a three piece always takes me right back (more than 40 years but who's counting?).
Now I've seen a fair few 60's/70's bands over the last few years and in general, the vocals aren't quite as good as they were 'back in the day' but, Rob, your voice gets better and better ! Sends a chill and a shiver up the ole backbone !
    Cheers Guys.
'Do we know what that is'? - 'FEEDBACK' !!! (you had to be there)

  9. Hi Shoreham Steve. The Broughtons are not a 60s 70s band. They are as vital today as they have always been & the messages haven't changed.....

But yes, I know what you mean...heyday...etc...etc.

Do you think that if they hadn't got back together in 2006 there might be scores of Broughtons tribute bands on the circuit playing watered down covers of Up Yours etc?...ohmygod, I hope not!!

Have a great time in Norway guys.

    cheers

    Tony H.

  10. Then I started thinking.....
    Names for Broughtons tribute bands:

    The Gone Blues Band
    The Old Gophers
    The Electric Citizens
    The Edgware Broughton Band

    ....any more?

  11. Tony H - you're absolutely right that EBB are as vital as always.
I've said on many occasions throughout the years that I long for a time when 'American Boy Soldier' is no longer relevent.
I don't really 'get' tribute bands. It's another, more marketable name for a covers band.
But if there was one, it would have to be called 'Wasa not Wasa'

  12. What a fantastic gig the other evening. Last years Friars do was good but this one was even better. The feedback problem didn't really distract and even added to the overall atmosphere. The mix of familiar and other songs was excellent. Picked up the titles of most of those I didn't know from the other postings - but any chance of putting up a full set list Rob?

When I first saw you at Watford Tech college around 69 my mum said to me their music will never last like that of our generation has. 40 years later she has had to admit to me she has been proved wrong.

You probably won't remember but it came back to me when you mentioned North Devon the other night - you played a gig without any gear just outside Perranporth around 1970 because your van had failed to arrive from the Weeley festival. The rest of the evening was spent drinking with you in the Green Parrot - quite an eye-opener for four slightly naive 18 year old lads from Hertfordshire.

    Thanks for an unforgettable night

  13. Also, have to agree about the comments on tribute bands. But there are always exceptions to every rule.
For me, these are The Hamsters, one of the hardest working bands on the circuit and the occasional side project of the Fairporters and Steve Gibbons - The Dylan Project.

  15. Hope you don't mind, Rob, if I help Pete with the setlist of the great 100-Club night.
